I love weddings!

Meet one of my beautiful Charmed Life brides, Jane. I made a complete line for her wedding including a bridal Rosary, a wedding cord, the entourage gifts and the gifts for the guests.

Here's a photo of her in her Veejay Floresca gown holding a Charmed Life crystal bridal Rosary. It just makes everything more sentimental and traditional doesn't it? =)
Today started out bad for me. My business phone suddenly zonked out last night. It was a Nokia E71 and it really served me well but since it was my business phone and was very much used and abused, I guess last night was its time to say goodbye. T_T

I panicked this morning because I really can't function without my business line. Unlike my personal phone which is an Iphone4 that I use for browsing the net, killing time while waiting, talking with Pao, family and people I know personally, my business phone pretty much orchestrates everything that needs to be done. Plus I can't use my Iphone 4 for the meantime since it only uses a micro sim.

So this morning, I had to brave the rains and find a replacement phone--fast.
I searched online early morning for an affordable QWERTY phone (I can't text anymore with a non QWERTY keypad). I found Nokia C3 which is really cute and quite similar to my old phone.

By 11.30 am, I already have my replacement phone. I didn't have time to check it anymore in the mall after buying it but when I got home and tried to navigate my new C3, I got pleasantly surprised.

I think its a phone meant for a younger crowd so that means its up for heavy texting and calling. I also like that it has wi-fi capability. Although it looks and feels a bit plastic-y I'm quite enjoying migrating my old contacts and copying important messages without any glitch and the best part is its really affordable! =D

I loved the Nokia E series phones which are really business phones but I thought the Nokia C3 will do just fine since I don't really need fancy features--my business phone is for heavy texting and calling so I just need a QWERTY keypad and a long battery life. I can use my other phone to keep me entertained. =)
So if you are looking for a simple phone with a nice design, basic capabilities and and you are not a phone snob (its relatively an old model since it came out last year), Nokia C3 is a nice option.

I'm quite enjoying my new business phone, I wonder though how long it'll put up with my abuse. :/

On to less serious stuff: My beauty haul for the week.

I've been busy the past few days but still had to keep it light and slow down when things get a bit more frantic than usual.
Our little niece Trish (from the Yason side) stayed with us over the weekend. We had fun and Pao was actually very happy to have spent time with Trish exclusively for the first time the whole weekend.

The first few days of the week was spent tidying and rearranging things in the house, I wasn't able to write a few entries. I guess I'm nesting since most of my time right now is spent preparing the house and cleaning up. I'm becoming my mother, I'm now a neat-freak who loves to redecorate all the time.

On down days when I have no choice but to take things easy and rest, I find myself watching youtube a lot. I've noticed I've been really into make-up tutorials and watching beauty hauls that got me into buying new stuff this week that I've watched from their reviews.
I decided I'll make a mini beauty haul myself =)
Tandadadan...

As I've said in my previous post, I'm forcing myself to focus on other things (girly things) to prevent myself from researching and worrying to much. (Two things you often do when you have nothing else to do but rest!) I've been switching to organic bath products while I'm pregnant and decided to get a few things from Lush this week.

I went and got myself the Sultana of Soaps which I love, the Lemslip soap (too lemon-y for me), the Sugar Babe Sugar Body scrub (I have yet to try), the Lip Sugar scrub (a total waste of money--I could have made my own scrub), and their Imperialis face moisturizer. I've never had a break-out before and my skin is the least of my concerns but since my second month, I've broken out so much.
My skin breaking out is something new and I've never even had this when I was a teenager. I'm hoping Imperialis works out for me...so far so good.

I'm sad that I've almost finished my Mac Wonderwoman Marquise'd nude lipstick so I went out to look for a new replacement. I found two from Revlon which is from their Colorburst line. I love Revlon Colorburst line. I have 6 tubes and counting and already went through two tubes. This time, I picked up Soft Nude which speaks for itself and a new shade: Petal which I really, really love. It's a soft pink nude that works well with my warm/medium complexion.
I got a Revlon Super Lustrous lip gloss in Pink 180. I don't like it though as much. It's too sticky for me. The SA was just able to convince me that it would look nice with my color. I don't have a complaint with the pigment though, I just don't like the consistency.

I also got the Coralista from Benefit from my sweet H.S. schoolmate Cierre who resells make-up not available locally.

I love it! I love the brush, the scent and the shade as well as the packaging. The shade actually looked a bit bright for me in the box but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was sheer once applied on my face. It's a warm color and it gives you a healthy glow.
Another must-have is a Kabuki brush that I've been meaning to buy for the longest time, I got one from Suesh which is about 1/3 of the price of Mac brushes. I'm not new to using Suesh brushes and applicators. I have other high-end applicators and Suesh's quality is similar if not the same.

I think I got a little more than the usual this week! Beauty hauls are so much fun to watch in youtube. Be careful though because you might end up buying more than you actualy need!

I really think I'm more maarte than usual and Pao have noticed my lips are brighter than usual even inside the house hehe. I guess I'm just trying to have fun right now than just be miserable with all the nausea, morning sickness and whatnots. =)

Do you delete friends on facebook?

Truth be told, I was a bit reluctant making my big announcement on facebook. It dawned to me finally that it is supposed to be my personal network of friends and family--why then suddenly I felt like I am announcing it to the world?!

I was talking to my best friend and we got around talking about how more personal facebook is for us. We never got around having more than 600 friends which I believe is a small number now in fb.
I find that a bit ironic since I keep a public blog but what some people don’t know is that bloggers choose what to reveal. Unlike the threat of having your facebook posts as annoying spam on the newsfeed, Blogs are seeked out by readers.
In essence, it’s the same in fb but the difference is people know you. You are seeked out as a person and not by the subject you are writing.

I write mainly for fun and though I give a glimpse of my personal life every now and then, what I write is definitely only an edited fraction of the sum of my everyday existence.

Anyway, going to my facebook account, I noticed I only have about 500+ friends in my more than two years of actively using fb. I rarely invite contacts and still have to wade through my friend requests. But still, I wondered do I really have 500++ friends in real life?!
This is one of the reasons why I keep a separate business fb account. I wanted to keep my account as personal as possible.

In this time and age of voyeurism, sometimes its hard to set standards in “making friends” in an online network. Its a personal thing, yes but one must admit the number of followers you get on Tweeter, the number of friends and likes you get in facebook are starting to account so much more than they should.

One afternoon, I finally decided that I was going to start tidying up my fb account. I realized fb for me is not a collection of people; I want it as much as possible to reflect my real social graph. I really just have a small criterion on being “friends” with people in fb: If we at one point in our lives had some sort of link—and a happy one at that.
I for one wouldn’t feel offended if one removes me from her/his list provided I really don’t have a present relationship with her/him anyway.

It wasn’t really anything personal when I started trimming down friends, but I suppose somebody you haven’t talked with in years or someone who couldn’t even greet you on something as momentous in your life like getting married or having a baby or something that only happens once a year such as a birthday don’t bode well as a “friend” for me in real life. Why then should it be any different in my online world?
Unless of course we go back to the subject of voyeurism—we only want to know and see what others are up to or the other way around: we want people to know and see what we are up to.

I must admit I’m guilty of not being a good “fb friend.” Life gets in the way of fb-ing all the time but at the end of the day, building a social graph is not a game of accumulating the most number of friends and followers. Building such an impersonal group only threatens to dilute the value of the network that we hoped would bring us closer together in the first place.

What do you think?

Big Thanks and Love to Jettee's Kitchen!

I was greeted one morning with the loveliest surprise. The heavenliest, most luxurious cakes were delivered to me as gifts from one of my clients, Jet. Jet is one of the most thoughtful persons I know. To this day, my project with her for her little angel, Marcus remains as one of my most memorable experiences in my Charmed Life shop.

Jet is the owner of Jettee’s kitchen, which sells probably the most luxurious pastries you’ll taste in this side of the city. She uses the finest ingredients such as French Valrhona, premiere real Belgian-made chocolate Callebaut, real New Zealand creamery butter, and pure extracts of Nielsen-Massey such as Bourbon Madagascar Vanilla and Peppermint. Oh Yum.

She sent me two of her Heavenly Cakes, The Carrot Walnut (Pao absolutely loved this one) and the other one which I believe is one of the bestsellers, the Choco Banana.

The Carrot Walnut has a rich cream cheese filling that is so good. Her cakes are so rich without being too sweet or the taste overwhelming because all the ingredients just work together. Pastries by Jettee's Kitchen are Love in a cake. I don't really eat a lot of cakes and I usually skip on pastries because I'm really picky when it comes to baked goodies. I hate overpowering and artificial tastes but my goodness, these are so good! They make their pastries with the best ingredients and it's evident with the first bite--it's so sumptuous, luxurious and more importantly, fresh.

Even her pastry packaging is so pretty; I love the colors and the tin cans! Lovely! Everything is so beautifully done.

Jet is also committed to the advocacy of helping parents, babies and children in need. Together with her husband, they put up the Love of Marcus Fund.
They are social entrepreneurs. Pastries by Jettee’s Kitchen is a venture utilized to help others as well.

“A business fueled by the love of Marcus, it is ultimately purposed for the love of others. Twenty percent of Jettee’s Kitchen’s net earnings automatically goes to subsidize the projects initiated by the Love of Marcus Fund.”

Miss Universe Hang-over

Pardon me, I still have a hang-over from yesterday's excitement over the Miss U. I just read Lea Salonga's column in Philippine Inquirer and she stated that the judges were unanimous with their decision over the winner. What people may have seen on tv was different from what they saw. Shamcey was her second placer but over-all it was in the bag for Miss Angola.

I loved how Shamcey answered but after thinking about it (talagang analysis), I realized her answer was cultural. It was something we Filipinos can relate to but on an international platform (and just days after September 11) her answer shouldn't have been too exclusive.
She should have said, "I will not give up anything nor would I ask him to. If we love each other so much then we should respect if not accept all our beliefs. True love is universal--whoever our gods may be, whatever we may believe in."

But then my sister who's an alumna and a semi-finalist of the Bb. Pilipinas pageant said that when you are up there, composure and thinking fast on your feet is everything. The fact she was able to answer with composure, eloquence, honesty and poise without seconds to think about it--that alone should have counted so much more. So Bravo, Shamcey! (Clap, clap, clap). You are a winner.

I am not a Pageant aficionado although I do watch the Miss U all the time. Days before the Miss U 2011, I told Paolo there's something about Miss Angola that I really, really liked. More than how she looks like, there's something about her countenance that just takes your breath away. So Pao was surprised my bet (aside from Shamcey) won.

She reminds me so much of one of my all-time favorites, Miss Japan, Kurara Chibana (My major girl crush), the Miss Universe first runner-up 2006 (who I personally think deserved the title and not Miss Puerto Rico). Oo na, aminin na, aficionado na ako.

These women are not necessarily the most beautiful in the pageant, but they are the most radiant. There's just something about them that stuns.
There are a lot of beautiful faces but there are only a few of those gifted with the ability to stand out. That for me is a real beauty. Something innate and with the person even when they get older.

And for those who kept saying Miss Universe pageants are stupid and airhead women are made into objects, please tell us if there is another contest in this world as prestigious that brings more than 80 plus countries (wherein all are in equal footing) together to take part in something beautiful. These women are ambassadors of their countries. You can't be an airhead and retain your composure representing your country. For me, that's a celebration of femininity.

So congrats Miss Angola, Congrats Shamcey! Until the next Miss U!

♪♫♫♪Make-up my mind..♪♫

I've been noticing the past few days that I'm regaining my love for make-ups. I guess when you are preggy and so restricted with the usual girly routines like spa and hair treatments, you find ways to still feel feminine while growing bigger by the day.

Being a control-freak...and pregnant is sometimes a challenge since it is this time that I seem to have no control with my body--hormones, moods and all. And I found out one day while being so unusually sad for no reason (hormones!), putting on make up even though I was just confined in my bed made me instantly a happy camper. I can't choose where to feel the little aches and pains but at least I can choose what gloss to use. Whatever floats my boat.

My days resting and taking it easy for the first few weeks made me almost a madwoman, my husband thought of confiscating my laptop. I guess when you have nothing to do all day and no one to talk to all day, you end up researching about everything and all the symptoms you've been feeling.
Everyday, I would report a new symptom I've researched about in the net that I would somehow be able relate to myself.

So Thank God, I was able to shift my focus to something that would make me feel and look better.

I've written some days ago about my sparse, abused eyelashes after subjecting them to lash extension. So after researching about the best mascaras around, I kept being redirected to Shiseido' Majolica Majorca Lash Expander.

This is by no means a beauty blog but I'm so impressed with this find I just had to write about it. I took a picture of my left eye before putting on the Lash Expander Frame Plus. Notice my sparse eyelashes from having most of them fall out with the extensions I had months back. Growing them back takes tiiiiime.

The mascara wand is odd-looking, one side is used for applying the lengthening formula with fibers (those short hair-like ones you can see in the photo) and the other side is used for fanning out the lashes. The fibers work as extensions of the lashes.

This is me (or my left eye at least) after putting on about two coats of the lash expander. I didn't use any eye make-up, contacts or eyeliner so this is just the plain mascara working on making my eye bigger and more importantly my lashes longer!

Aylavet! I'm thinking I loved the effect even now with thin lashes, how much more when all my lashes have grown back? I think I'm using this one for a long, long time. =)

Yay Philippines!

She did soooo well! I personally think she deserved a higher place in the pageant if not the title itself.

We must admit watching Shamcey sashay reminds us of every girl's childhood fantasy of becoming a beauty queen. So proud of my fellow Iska. She embodies what beauty queens should be all about: an all-around knock-out and achiever.

But what I'm even more proud of is After Venus and Shamcey, the Philippines is now a force to reckon with in the Miss Universe Pageant! Gooow! =)

Meeting Diego!

Seeing my friends have babies made me more excited to have one myself! Yesterday we visited my good friends Kay and her husband Jar to meet their little munchkin Diego.

It's a wonder how you meet babies for the first time and just fall in love with them on the spot! What a cutie!

I'm so happy for you Maru! Mommyhood becomes you! I've never seen you happier and more beautiful. =) Love you both!

Speaking of mommyhood and babies, these are my first preggy close-up photos

I don't know if I look preggy already all I know is I'm losing my nose bridge! Hehehe =)

A Mother's Day

Pao and I had a little secret the past few months...

The reason we waited for a while before telling everyone is because there is really beauty in waiting...We should know since we waited for 2 and a half years for the right time.

We made sure the little peanut is well on his/her way before telling the world he/she is coming. Now, we are as excited more than ever.
The last weeks of keeping secrets were fun. They brought us so much closer, They made us really assess our future, what we wanted for our family and where we are going without outside influences. It was really just us three, literally in those few weeks.

But now is so much more fun because we get to share our happiness and excitement to everyone who loves and cares for us.

We specifically chose September 8 to share our good new because I grew up as a Marian devotee, having spent more than 10 years of my life as a member of the Legion of Mary. Our dear Mother is the first one I call upon during times of hardships.
What better time to announce my impending motherhood than the day of our beloved Mama Mary.

Thanks for the well-wishes and greetings. =) Now there are more things to write about in my blog, but don't worry I won't be one of those preggy women who talk about their pregnancy all the time. Well, I'll try my best. ;)

Here's to the new chapter ahead!

My First Cath Kidston

I've always wanted a Cath Kidston bag. I find the brand very girly, very British and the prints just absolutely make me happy.
It appeals to my granny -chic taste. It's just so difficult to get hold of a genuine one here in the Philippines.

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton uses a Cath Kidston bag as seen here in the photo during her Canadian visit. Just goes to show that we all need that dose of kitsch every now and then however serious and classic our style may be. =)

I wanted a Carry-all in the same print! What's better than a similar print to a princess for my first Cath Kidston? =)

I wanted this design since I first saw it in a Japanese shopping site.

My Dottie, It's finally here!

Although Cath Kidston fakes are everywhere around the Metro, it's really easy to spot the copies . Usually the tags are not smooth and the oilcloth is much thinner. You can really tell the difference from a genuine Cath Kidston because of the quality.

Here's a photo of the tag in an original Cath Kidston:

Lately I'm into canvass, lightweight and oilcloth bags. I'm still able to address my bag cravings without breaking the bank.
This is my first CK but definitely not my last.
Yay to more affordable bags!

My pretties

Good vibes, Good start

Yesterday, my mother-in-law stayed for the night and it was a welcome change in our routine. Funny how we notice the littlest details in the house when the MIL visits. But she is a dear and it doesn't take too much to entertain her. I really should start with all the house projects I've been putting off. We're halfway done with the de-clutterring mode.

I didn't know that two and half years of being married we have accumulated that so much stuff! Time to edit.

I have been cooking the past few days as I have promised and I whipped up Garlic Noodles and Adobo. My recipe is Paolo's absolute favorite. I make a twice-cooked Adobo and use Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil with my recipe. Adobo has that sort-of Universal taste so I also pair it up with Garlic Noodles for non-rice eaters. Garlic Noodle recipe is just basically Olive Oil, Chopped Garlic, Pepper and Spices and I also use Thyme sparingly.

I love Caesar salad and I make my own salad dressing. I use 1 cup of mayonnaise, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp of Worchestechire, 2 tbsp of Dijon Mustard, 2 tbsp of half and half, 1 clove of garlic minced, salt and pepper and mix them all together in the food processor. Voila! Your very own Caesar Salad dressing.

My happy hubby. Adobo is the way to his heart. =))
